For live streamers taking their first steps into the live streaming industry, Streamlabs OBS provides a feature that automatically scans your internet speed and computer hardware to give you our recommended settings for your particular set up. For those that are a bit more technically savvy, today we are going to discuss some of the settings you can adjust within Streamlabs OBS to help ensure optimal quality.

Having settings that are too high for your computer's hardware can cause performance issues for your live stream. To adjust these settings, open Streamlabs OBS and click on the settings cog in the lower left-hand corner. Picking the encoder that works best for you depends on a few factors.

How to Reduce Lag While Streaming

However, the advantage is a decreased load on your CPU. If you have a particularly powerful GPU or a dedicated streaming PC, consider using a hardware encoder.

The output of your video resolution can have a significant impact on the quality of your live stream and the performance of Streamlabs OBS. For example, streaming at p vs p will double the number of pixels, meaning your computer will be using more resources. You can leave the base canvas resolution as x since, in most cases, that is the standard size of the content you are streaming.

It is, however, recommended to lower the Output Scaled Resolution since streaming in p can have a significant impact on your CPU. We recommend lowering the Output Scaled Resolution to x for a good balance between performance and quality. The usage preset refers to how fast the CPU encodes video.

The faster it encodes, the less CPU it uses. This feature allows our software to automatically adjusts your bitrate based on network conditions to prevent dropping frames. Having a static bitrate can cause frames to drop because if your connection is unable to keep up, it will drop frames to improve the stability of your stream and minimize latency. All video streamers have to deal with it. To help smooth out, speed up, and minimize your video streaming issues, here are a few tried and tested tips. Note: I stream from a Mac, but I added a few tips for Windows users as well. You don't necessarily need a setup like video game streamer Tyler "Ninja" Blevins to run a good-looking livestream.

This may seem like the most obvious one, but we have a lot of new livestreamers out there. And honestly, even grizzled livestream vets such as myself forget to plug in directly to the modem sometimes. When possible, you should be streaming using a wired connection. Plug that ethernet cable directly from your modem to your computer. It will speed up your live video stream, and is more reliable than a WiFi connection.

What if you don't have an ethernet port on, say, your new MacBook? Don't worry. You have options. If you don't have an ethernet port, a simple Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter will fix that problem.

If your issue is that your connection is dropping because you're too far away from your modem and router, you can buy a mesh WiFi system. These devices will give your WiFi signal a boost and extend its range.

Another option is to buy a better wireless router. You'll need upload speeds of at least 4 Mbps if you want to stream live video in HD. You can check with a service like Speedtestwhich, full disclosure, is owned by Mashable parent company J2. If you're not getting that from your ISP, you can upgrade your plan or go with a different service provider.

Now, not all streaming software will allow you to do this, but for this example, let's go with the most popular and free option: OBS. Free open-source livestreaming program OBS is all you really need to run a pro-level livestream on a PC. If you find your video stream is lagging, change your output settings in OBS to p Resolution: x I know, I know, your favorite YouTubers are all uploading 4K footage now, at the very least you could stream live video in p, right?

I promise you, the majority of your viewers will not notice the difference in output If your choices are p or a choppy output, I guarantee they will prefer the former. You can now also knock your video bitrate down. The higher quality the image, the higher your bitrate will need to be for a smooth picture. With your streaming video quality set to p, setting your video bitrate to around kb per second should give you a great image.

OBS is a great option for livestreamers, new and old.

Marketing campaigns will focus both on deterring new ad blocking users and discouraging existing users.

The ethics of ad blocking will also be questioned as software providers increasingly attempt to profit from ad authorisation. Meanwhile, the technical ping-pong against ad blockers will continue. This will return short-term dollars to publishers but will override consumer wishes, so the safer long-term strategy will be to address the core concerns which have drawn people to ad blocking. Expect to see the digital advertising industry urgently responding to these specific challenges throughout the coming year.

Marketers will be focused on understanding the role each media plays within a broader plan and how they rub off to produce synergistic effects. The concept of synergies has been around for some time but what has changed is the planning aspect and the application of a discipline to the selection of channels to maximise its impact.

These numbers are not only growing but increasingly we are seeing non-TV synergies emerging as advertisers and agencies start to get their heads around this. But they offer opportunities for forming different kinds of relationships that meet consumer needs at different times and occasions. Optimising media duplication and phasing can go a long way in driving synergies but as a first step, marketers will need to ensure that every medium has a role to play within the broader media mix.
